Obituary for Doris Lora Strobel

Doris Lora Strobel (nee Jaeger) of Neosho passed away on her 94th birthday, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Kathy Hospice in West Bend, WI with the love and support of Jesus and her beloved family at her side.

Doris was born on April 28, 1924 in Watertown, WI the daughter of Elmer Sr. & Anita (nee Block) Jaeger. She attended St. Mark’s Lutheran School in Watertown and upon graduation became employed in various capacities in the Watertown area, most notably as personal assistant to Professor Ott at Northwestern Preparatory College of Watertown. She was united in marriage to Hilmer C. Strobel on February 10, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richwood and subsequently moved to the Neosho area to begin their lifelong career in dairy farming which they sustained for 61 years.

She was a past member of the Neosho Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary, a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and its’ St. Anne’s Christian Mothers Sodality where she volunteered many hours of her time and talents to the advancement and causes of those organizations.

Doris led a very active life, working long, hard hours on the farm, as well as raising and caring for her family, her parents, or whomever else she saw that needed some help or care. She was a very selfless person and always at her happiest when she could be of help or service to someone else – even to her last days when she was planning for one final banquet. Her only self-indulgence was her insatiable desire for anything chocolate.

Her other great love was tending to her flowers, garden and farmstead – always striving to have it well kept, clean and pretty. She defined “weed free zone” long before it became commercially popular and often times would go out of her way to eliminate a simple dandelion that “didn’t belong there”. She also had a penchant for decorating her dooryard with seasonal decorations, especially Christmas which earned her the fame and compliments of many passersby.
But above all else, perhaps her most endearing attribute was that of her adoring smile which could melt icebergs and will forever be remembered and engraved in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her. She will be so sorely and forever missed.

Doris is survived by her loving sons, Larry (Beverly) of Watertown, David of Neosho, Daniel (June) of Hustisford, Tony (Laura) of Neosho, and daughter, Mary Kaul of Rubicon, cherished grandchildren, Tim (Jana) Strobel, Christy Strobel, Mike Strobel, Brad Strobel, Laurie (Lucas) Rocole, Sarah, Kyle, and Marissa Kaul, cherished great-grandchildren, Addison and Kinsley Strobel, Kristin and Allison Stair, and Logan, Lily, and Lexie Rocole, brother-in-law, Earl Roberts, sister-in-law, Yvonne Jaeger, Dr. Kevin O’Halloran “Doctor Honey” who put Doris “back together” several times, dear friend and pen pal, Jennie Wanke and many loved nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Doris was the last remaining member of her immediate family being preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Lawrence and Barbara (nee Muellenbach) Strobel, her husband of 65 years, Hilmer, daughter-in-law, Sue Strobel, infant great-grandson, Evan Michael Strobel, brothers Edward (Orabelle), Norman (Grace), Elmer, Jr. and Marvin (Peggy) Jaeger, sisters Jeanette (Frank) Staffeil and Lorna Roberts, brothers-in-law, Joseph, George, Cornelius, sisters-in-law, Dolores Marek, Alice Joyce, Katherine Paske, Mae Martin, and infant Alma.
