Obituary for Laila Mary Pickhard

Laila M. Pickhard (nee Nehm) age 93 of Juneau, Wisconsin went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Larson House in Columbus.

Laila was born November 3, 1924 in the Town of Polk, WI to Henry K. and Elsa Maria L. (nee Schwanz) Nehm. She was united in marriage to Garvin H. Pickhard on October 9, 1948 at St. John Evangelical Church in Slinger.

Laila was both a farmer and a homemaker. She worked alongside of her husband, Garvin, both in the fields and the barn. She had many flower gardens and a vegetable garden which provided her family with food through the winter. She was creative and had many outlets such as quilting, rosemaling, crocheting and knitting. Laila loved her family and was an excellent cook. She loved preparing special meals for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Laila is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Elliott) Pollasch of Princeton and Marcella Draeger of Juneau; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Greg) Barton, Christopher (Sarah) Pollasch, Lindsay (Peter) Osborne, Andrew Pollasch, Patti (Dave) Roberts, Randy (Jill) Draeger, and Tim (Jessica) Draeger; 17 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Edress Pickhard and Barbara Pickhard, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Harry and Ida (nee Naab) Pickhard; loving husband of 68 years, Garvin who passed away in April of 2017; son-in-law, Ron Draeger; siblings, Anita (Earl) Mechenich, Robert (Audrey) Nehm, Carl (Charlene) Nehm, Ruth (Earl) Schilling and her twin sister, Lenora Nehm; brothers-in-law, Robert (Naomi), Harvey and Garvin’s twin brother, Clarence Pickhard.

Funeral Services for Laila will be held at Faith Bible Alliance Church, W2799 Lehman Rd., Neosho, on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Jeff Thrane presiding. Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 9:00-11:00a.m. at the church.

Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

Thanks to Hillside Hospice and Wisconsin Care for their guidance, expertise and care for Laila for the last three years. Thanks to Amber Holder and Pastor Jeff Thrane whose visits went above and beyond the call of duty. Most of all we are so grateful for the amazing love and care shown by those at Larson House. We were so touched by the constant stream of wonderful people, whether on or off shift that stopped to offer support to Laila and us in the last week of her life.
