Obituary for Harold David Rosenbaum

Harold David Rosenbaum, age 87 of Hartford, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 surrounded by the love and warmth of his family at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. He was born on February 17th, 1931, in Fond du Lac, WI to Arthur and Ruth (nee Keyes) Rosenbaum. He was united in marriage to Shirley Klink on October 13th, 1956, at St. Kilian’s Church of Hartford.
Harold focused on living his life with grace and gratitude, grateful for any favor or blessing. He had a passion for the great outdoors, especially making memories with his loved ones in the woods and on the lake. Harold believed each day was a gift and cherished any opportunity to connect with family and friends. Many admired and were touched by his outlook on life, his love for our country, his faith in our Lord, and his endless love for all his family. He was a great example of a true gentleman. Many people were blessed to have him impact their lives in an unforgettable way. Besides his family and close friends, Harold was passionate and deeply loved his dogs. His family often referred to him as the “dog whisperer,” as he seemed to have a special way of communicating with them.
From 1949-1953, Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on a Destroyer Escort. Following his time in the service, Harold relocated to the Hartford area and worked as a mason. After several years of brick laying, he established his own business, "Rosenbaum Tile". He was well known for his craftsmanship and took great pride in his work. He was one of the founders of the Hartford Conservation and Gun Club where he served on the Board of Directors and as past President for over 30 years. Harold also co-initiated the MACC Fund ‘Shoot For a Cure’ to raise money for childhood cancer. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, and Fisherman’s Road Fishing Club. Harold was also a member of St. Kilian’s Parish since 1956.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; adored father and father-in-law of Kevin Rosenbaum and Rene Schlough (Dave Schlough); cherished grandfather (‘Papa’) of Erika and Alex Schlough who brought him so much happiness, pride, and joy. He is further survived by sisters-in-law Mary Rosenbaum and Bernadette Rosenbaum, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Harold is preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy (“Dottie”) Wehner, June Christian, Lorraine (Sue) Kassick, and brothers Leonard (“Butch”), Jack, Paul, and Myron.
We loved our dad and “Papa” with every piece of our hearts. He was the most genuine, honest, humble, and loving person we have ever known and always put his family first. Papa had a way of teaching life lessons with encouragement to everyone he met. He was a humble man and never claimed to be perfect, but his family thought he was. Many of his family and friends have stated, “To know him, was to love him.” Rest easy Papa, you have definitely earned your wings.
He will be loved and missed forever, and yet those who knew him know he will always be a part of their lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial, led by Father Peter Lee and Father David La Plante, will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14th, 2018 at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church in Hartford, Wisconsin. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services.

Burial will be at St. Kilian’s Cemetery on Wednesday morning, August 15th at 10:00 a.m. (procession to the cemetery will leave from Shimon Funeral Home 824 Union St. Hartford at 9:45 a.m.)
