Obituary for Francis Joseph Whelan

Francis J. Whelan, age 85, found peace on Monday, July 16, 2018. He was born August 21, 1932 to parents William and Mary Agnes Whelan. Francis attended Shamrock Elementary School and graduated from St. John’s Cathedral High School, Milwaukee in 1950. Francis proudly served his country in the US Army from 1953-1955. Francis was united in marriage on September 8, 1956 to Vivian Wiedmeyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richfield. He worked at American Motors for 32 years.

Francis loved riding his John Deer lawnmower and cutting wood with his family. He and Vivian enjoyed restoring Aermotor windmills with the entire family. Francis was an avid reader of Western novels.

Francis is survived by his loving wife, Vivian; seven children, Diane (Earl) Pamperin, Jane (Greg) Maier, Michael (Wendy), Peter (Mary), Karen (Tom) Rego, David (Jane) and Paul (Melissa); eighteen grandchildren; Danielle (Ken) Ovesky, Kerry (Jorge) Briones, Eva (Josh) Van Egmond; Shawn (Marissa) Trochinski, Luke (friend Desiree) Trochinski, Adam Trochinski; Sara (Scott) Kaczor, Mike Jr. (Tracy) Whelan, Kevin Whelan; Brian, Megan, and Leanne Whelan; Shannon (friend Dan) Rego and Nick Rego; Bill (Erin) Bonne; Angela, Emily and Nathan Whelan; twelve great-grandchildren, Kasey, Briana, Vance, Danicka, Zoe, Martin, Pablo, Logan, Carlie, Alexandria, Wyatt, Garrett; two great-great-grandchildren, Bradley and Sofia; sister, Grace Smither; brother, Peter (Cathy); sister-in-law, Judy Whelan; former son-in-law, David Trochinski; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Francis is preceded in death by a son, Luke; grandson, Richard Bonne; son-in-law, David Kohler, brothers, Donald, Rev. William, Tom and Patrick; sisters, Sr. Agnessa and Mary Agnes Fabishak; brothers-in-law, Robert Smither, Daniel Fabishak and sisters-in-law, Mary and Sharon Whelan.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Hill Parish Center, 1515 Carmel Rd, Hubertus on Friday, July 20 at 11:00 AM with Father Bonaventure Lussier, OCD presiding. Visitation at the Church from 9:00 AM until time of Mass. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Erin. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Froedtert Community Memorial Hospital, Cedar Lake Community and AngelsGrace Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
