| | Vernon Retzlaff | | 02-25-2010 Vernon Conrad Retzlaff, age 75, formerly of Hartford, died on February 25, 2010 at the Mayville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mayville Wisconsin, after a long battle with cancer.
Vernon was born on March 22, 1934, the son of Edmund and Augusta (Maske) Retzlaff, in the Town of Herman, Dodge County. Vernon was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Herman. On May 26, 1956, he married Celeste Keup at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mayville.
Vernon enjoyed polka dancing, gardening, and traveling. He loved to spend time with his grandkids. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers. Vernon worked at Kraft Foods and International Stamping, both in Hartford, before becoming a Custodian for Hartford Union High School, where he retired from in 1996 after almost 27 years of service. He also drove school bus for Wittenberger Bus Service for 34 years.
Vernon is survived by his three boys, Glen of Augusta, GA, Gary (Tammy) of Phoenix, AZ, and Dan (Lisa) of Harford; four brothers, Milton (Adeline) of Theresa, Edward (Martha) of Oconomowoc, Melvin (Eldine) of Mayville, and Robert (Bonnie) of Fond du Lac; his sisters, Marion Zuehlke and Bernice (Virgil) Metke both of Mayville; his sister-in-law, Margaret Meyer of Mayville; brothers- in-law, Ray Voight of Mayville and Peter Beistle of Slinger; his grandchildren, Derrike, Alexandra, and Kacie. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Arnold, Aaron, and Marvin; and his sisters, Erna Ehlers, Eleanor Voight, and Marlene Beistle.
A Time of Gathering and Remembrance for Vernon will be held at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union Street in Hartford, on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
