Robert G. "Shop" Schulz
Robert G. Schulz “Shop”, age 70, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his residence.
He was born March 29, 1942 in Milwaukee to John and Bernice Schulz. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville with a BS in Education in 1966 followed by a Master’s Degree in 1969. Robert was united in marriage to Patricia Schwalbach on November 23, 1974 in Hartford.
He served the community as a technology education “shop” teacher in the Hartford Common School District for 30 years, receiving accolades as an Outstanding Young Educator. A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Robert was a Past Master and Trustee of the Hartford Masonic Lodge #120. He was a past president of the Washington-Ozaukee Shrine Club, a member of the Tripoli Shrine Mariners and the Tripoli Animals Parade Unit as well as a Past Grand Lodge officer.
Robert was a loving husband, father, friend, and neighbor. He was passionate about good food and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. Robert was a selfless person; never too busy to help someone in need. He was a caring and indulgent grandfather who loved watching his grandchildren grow.
A member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, the NRA, the Hartford Gun Club, and the Neosho Sportsman’s Club, Bob was a sportsman, a conservationist, a hunter safety instructor, and a lover of the wilderness. He spent the majority of his life on Pike Lake; sailing, swimming, boating, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; children Andrew (Elizabeth) Schulz and Kate (Krist) Poppe; grandchildren Alea Marecek, Quinn Schulz, Kyla Schulz, Eleanor Poppe, and Henry Poppe. He is further survived by his sister Kay Michalski; half-brother Karl Hubert; step-brother John (Edith) Gralow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Howard (Kathy) Schwalbach, Jack (Glenda) Schwalbach, Gerald (Susan) Schwalbach, Donna Peterson, Mary Holmen, Janel (Rod) Peterson, Susan (Bill) Roen, and Mike (fiancée Sheri) Schwalbach as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents John Schulz and Bernice Gralow; stepdad William Gralow; in-laws Howard and Lorraine Schwalbach; brothers-in-law Ronald Peterson and Roger Holmen, and step-brother Stephen Gralow.
Funeral services for Robert will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Chapel of St. Therese at the Basilica of Holy Hill, with Rev. Fred Alexander officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at Shimon Funeral Home on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm with a Masonic service at 10:00 am.
