Diedrich Henry Wiegand “Dick”, age 84 went to be with our Lord on February 28, 2017.

He was born February 29, 1932 in Overton, NE to Aloysius and Gertrude (Erpelding) Wiegand. Dick was one of ten children. He graduated from Kearney H.S. in 1950, earning all-state honors in football and basketball, two heavy-weight boxing state championships, and twelve letters. Dick was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodger organization. He was a hurler for the Ponca City and Newport News Dodgers and the Rapid City Chiefs. He won three minor league pennants in his baseball career, which was briefly interrupted by the Korean War where he served in the Army as a radio operator. Following his service to our country, Dick graduated from Kearney State Teachers College in 1958 and began work at Allstate Insurance, where he earned numerous allocades over a 32 year career. Golf was also Dick's passion.

Dick met and married Margaret Ann (Baldwin) Wiegand in Rapid City, SD. They were married on 9-5-1959. They shared 41 years together until her passing on 12-14-2000. Dick met Della (Miller) Wiegand his second wife in Yuma, AZ. They moved to Sun City West, AZ and married 1-17-2003. They shared 14 years together. Dick loved spending time with family and friends of which he had many.

Dick is survived by his wife, Della, his beloved children; Kirby Wegner, Joseph and Jennifer (Edgar) Wiegand, Theresa (Wiegand) and Greg Bednar, his four grandchildren, Katherine (Wiegand) Fritts, Emily Wiegand, Diedrich Bednar and Andrew Bednar; brothers and sisters Lorraine (Wiegand) and Fred Smith, Delbert and Norita Wiegand, Lucy (Wiegand) and Al Candy, Al Wiegand, Leonard and Virginia Wiegand; and his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Katie (Baldwin) Jorgensen. He is further survived by loving nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Baldwin) Wiegand and his sisters, Verna Mae (Wiegand) Simpson and Joanne (Wiegand) Starr.

A memorial get together was hosted by Della in Sun City West, AZ in spring. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 at 3:30p.m. at the St. Therese Chapel (second floor) of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill (1525 Carmel Road Hubertus, WI 53033) with the Rev. Fr. Fred Alexander OCD officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at the St. Therese Chapel on Monday, June 19th from 2:00p.m. until the time of Mass.  Private inurnment in St. Mary of the Hill Parish Cemetery (formerly St. Augustine) in Richfield, WI.
